Roots

Please note the following differences between Root's blower offerings and Gast's blower offerings :

Roots blowers are NOT motor mounted. They are usually belt driven at a maximum speed of 5275 RPM for the smallest size to 2050 RPM for the largest in this series. The maximum duty these blowers are rated for varies with speed and their design, and range from a low of 4 PSI to a maximum of 15 PSI pressure, or 4" Hg to 16" Hg in vacuum service. Many Roots blowers are also sold as packages that include the blower, the silencer and/or an optional sound enclosure, and the belt driven package (which may include the base mounted motor, gauges, and valves).
 
Roots blowers also require regular maintenance of the belt driven operation and lubrication, while Gast's regenerative blowers are non-lubricated.
 
In the following crossover chart, the referenced Gast models may have higher pressure or vacuums ratings than the nearest RAI equivalent; in other cases, the RAI model may have higher pressure ratings. Driving a Roots blower at a slower speed reduces its flow and sometimes its maximum rated duty. Driving the Roots model faster increases air flow. The horsepower required varies with the air flow and duty - this holds true for both the Gast and RAI blowers.
 
NOTE - To correctly compare vacuum performance, make sure that the performance numbers of the Roots unit are being compared against the performance of the Gast unit measured in CFM INLET AIR, not free air!
 
Some Reasons to Use a Gast Regenerative Blower vs. a Roots Blower Package :

Our regenerative blowers are much quieter than the Roots package equivalent (Roots packages often offer sound enclosures at additional cost due to their high noise level).

Our regenerative blowers have a much smaller envelope size than the Roots package equivalent.

Our regenerative blowers are much lighter than the equivalent Roots package of blower, silencers, and belt driven package.

Our regenerative blowers are virtually maintenance-free compared to the typical Roots package.
